Scroll Mainnet launched for the first time: focusing on real-world applications with a TVL of $19.3 million
Scroll Co-Founder Haichen: The launch of the Mainnet is a new starting point, with the ecosystem focusing on real-world applications.
Scroll, as an open-source Layer 2 solution led by Asian developers, has always attracted significant attention from the community. After two years of intensive development and one year of testing, Scroll officially launched its Mainnet on October 10, 2023.
As of October 27, the total locked value on the Scroll chain is ( TVL), exceeding 19.3 million USD. The number of on-chain wallet addresses has surpassed 147,000, with a total of over 860,000 verified transactions. Between October 20 and 26, the average daily transactions approached 80,000, with the highest single-day transaction volume exceeding 100,000.
Recently, a certain media outlet interviewed Scroll co-founder Haichen Shen, and here is a summary of the interview content:
Haichen introduced that he previously worked at Amazon Web Services, mainly focusing on AI compiler-related work. Later, he got in touch with zero-knowledge proof technology through activities in the Ethereum community, believing that this is a very promising field that can be used to develop practical products and systems, ultimately achieving Ethereum scalability.
Regarding the reasons for Scroll hosting the Ethereum Hong Kong Conference, Haichen expressed the hope that this event would engage Hong Kong students and Ethereum community developers from the Asia-Pacific region, allowing them to understand the latest developments in Ethereum, which is of great significance for the expansion of the entire Asia-Pacific developer ecosystem.
When talking about the significance of the launch of the Scroll Mainnet, Haichen believes that it is an important milestone, but also a new starting point. In the future, more features will be introduced to further enhance security, continue to reduce user costs, and provide developers with more functions to develop innovative applications.
One week after launch, Scroll's development is basically on track as expected. About 15 million USD has entered the Scroll chain, and some DeFi applications have begun to generate transactions. The growth of contract deployments is faster than TVL, which is a healthy sign, indicating that more innovative applications may be deployed on Scroll in the future.
Haichen explained the reasons for choosing the zkEVM solution: on one hand, zk can provide users with faster and stronger security guarantees; on the other hand, EVM equivalence can offer developers a better user experience, allowing them to use Ethereum development tools directly without additional modifications.
In terms of technical details, Scroll writes zero-knowledge proof circuits in a way that is closest to EVM and supports the most precompiled contracts. The sorter is based on Go-Ethereum, providing users and developers with stronger compatibility.
Regarding the ecological development plan, Scroll will initially focus on infrastructure support, such as RPC, indexing, cross-chain bridges, oracles, etc. More DeFi applications will be deployed later. Scroll aims to build an open and neutral platform that will not favor large or small projects, but will pay more attention to real-world applications, such as stablecoin payments, AA wallets, etc. In the future, there are also plans to incentivize developers to deploy contracts on Scroll through methods such as NFTs.
Haichen stated that Scroll had a smooth early financing, allowing for a long-term focus on technological development. The main challenges come from the technical level, which are gradually being resolved through internal discussions and collaboration with the open-source community.
Regarding the competition in the Layer 2 ecosystem, Haichen believes it is still in the early stages. In the future, it is necessary to address the trustlessness issue and provide more security guarantees, while also requiring more developers to innovate on zk Rollup. He believes the entire market is not a zero-sum game, but rather a field that can be further expanded.
