Scroll zkEVM Introduction: From Wallet Configuration to on-chain Tic Tac Toe

Scroll zkEVM Beginner's Guide

This article will introduce beginners to how to interact with L2 Dapps, using Scroll zkEVM as an example, explaining how to start using the network and interact with Ethereum L2 Dapps. The skills learned in this article can theoretically be applied to any Layer 2 network. We will demonstrate this through an on-chain Tic Tac Toe game running on the Scroll L2 network.

Preparation: Install Wallet

If you have already installed MetaMask or a similar wallet, you can skip this step. Otherwise, please choose the appropriate wallet for installation based on your device.

Step 1: Configure Test Network

Scroll zkEVM has currently launched its alpha testnet, which is a layer 2 network compatible with EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine). This means that smart contracts written for Ethereum can be deployed directly on Scroll zkEVM without modification. The Scroll L2 alpha testnet is currently connected to the Goerli test network of Ethereum L1. The Scroll L2 network batches transactions to be sent to the Goerli L1 network for transaction confirmation, thereby improving scalability while ensuring security.

You can add the Scroll L2 network and Goerli network to your wallet by following the official guide.

Step 2: Obtain Goerli Test ETH

After configuring the network, you need to obtain some Goerli ETH from a faucet. There are multiple faucets to choose from, each with different methods of acquisition and quantity limits. You can select a suitable faucet based on your needs, or combine the use of multiple faucets.

Step 3: Cross-chain ETH to Scroll L2

After obtaining enough Goerli ETH, the next step is to cross-chain a portion of it to the Scroll L2 testnet. You can use the cross-chain interface provided by the official team to complete this operation. Please note that the cross-chain process takes some time and will not be completed immediately.

Step 4: Experience the On-Chain Tic-Tac-Toe Game

After completing the cross-chain, you can try playing the on-chain tic-tac-toe game on Scroll L2. This is a multiplayer game where you need to add your opponent's address or use a second wallet as your opponent. After creating the game, select your game from the list to start.

This game has another interesting feature: if you make a wrong move or don't want to lose the game, you can reset the game at any time.

Step 5 (Optional): Explore More Scroll L2 Dapps

If you want to test more Dapps and games on Scroll, you can visit the official Dapp list and explore more interesting applications.

Through this guide, you should have mastered how to perform basic operations and interact with Dapps on L2 networks like Scroll zkEVM. As technology continues to evolve, we look forward to seeing more innovative L2 applications emerge.

Testnet is playing people for suckers again. Risk control indicators are all red. Be careful of the liquidation ratio.
