Many of you are obsessed with moving the position to break even too soon.
And honestly, it makes no sense.
For three reasons:
1. Break even is not management, it is an emotional defense mechanism.
Most use it to calm the fear of losing. But think: the market doesn't care about your entry at all. Your zone doesn't invalidate anything by itself. If you are going to move the stop, do it to a real invalidation, not out of anxiety.
2. You break your own edge.
This behavior, repeated a thousand times, destroys the profitability of the system. Many times it's better to take a stop today and get a take profit tomorrow. Do the math in 1,000 trades and you'll see.
3. You distort your mathematical expectation.
By moving the stop to break even too soon, you reduce the average size of your gains, but you don't do the same with your losses. Result: your expected profit collapses. It's not about being right, but about how much you earn when you win.
Moving to break even out of habit or fear is not management, it's self-sabotage.
Learn to endure discomfort and let your system work.
