European and American trade officials will meet on Wednesday, and the EU reiterates its warning on tariff countermeasures.

Jin10 data reported on June 2nd that an EU spokesperson stated on Monday that the EU has dispatched a technical team to Washington to engage in trade negotiations with the Trump administration. The EU warned over the weekend that Trump's increase of steel tariffs to 50% could jeopardize negotiations between the two major economies and provoke retaliatory tariffs on American goods. The spokesperson reiterated this warning on Monday, stating that if "our negotiations do not achieve a balanced outcome," the EU is prepared to take countermeasures. EU Trade Commissioner Šefčovič is expected to meet with U.S. Trade Representative Lighthizer in Paris on Wednesday.
